A price matching tip for the future!

Amazon today made a pricing error on there website, the error in question was the selling of the Xbox 360 Elite (120GB) console for the grand total of £70.98p including free delivery!. Now this is an amazing deal as these machines normally retail at around £250+. Picking one up at this price is very desirable as you could pop it right on ebay or in the local paper and sell it without problem for more then twice the price in the blink of an eye!.

The only problem with it was that Amazon have some small print in the sale contract that states they may not honour pricing errors on items. In the case of this item, it looked very unlikely that they would. This has since turned out to be true, as those that did order have since had there orders cancelled and refunded. Some have said that Amazon have offered vouchers to those that tried to purchased, but this is as yet unconfirmed by myself!.

Now this is were this little story gets a little interesting, some bricks and mortar shops like PcWorld will price match to certain websites (mainly the big popular ones - like Amazon!). One enterprising individual had PcWorld price match to Amazon on this miss-priced item. As I understand it, the PcWorld price matching policy will also give you 10% the difference in price as well!. That's an Xbox Elite 360 120gb for a massive £63 odd!.

Only wish I thought of it before the miss-matched price was corrected. Lesson learned, next time something like this happens - I will be all over it!.

If you would like to dig deeper into this then have a look at this forum thread about the debacle!.
